The International Day of Clean Energy
The International Day of Clean Energy
The International Day of Clean Energy is celebrated on January 26th to promote clean and sustainable energy sources for a healthy, safe, just world. The United Nations General Assembly declared this day to raise awareness of the urgent global transition from fossil fuels to energy sources such as solar, wind, hydroelectricity and bioenergy.
Clean energy sources can be introduced as solutions to many current global crises, namely climate change, environmental pollution, energy poverty, etc.
The main objective of the day is to support the seven Sustainable Development Goals 7 (SDG 7), which aim to ensure access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy sources for all by 2030. In particular, the promotion of clean energy helps to improve people's quality of life, improve education and health services, and stimulate economic growth.
The transition of people to clean energy sources is a matter of innovation, new job opportunities and strengthening the national economy. It also empowers communities by decentralizing energy systems and reducing dependence on imported fuels.
This clean energy consumption is very important for countries like Sri Lanka, where energy demand is growing and the risk of climate change is increasing. Increasing the use of solar, wind, and hydroelectric power can minimize energy costs, encourage environmental preservation, and cut down on fuel imports. To expedite this shift, individual accountability, policy support, and public awareness are crucial.
Governments, organizations, and individuals are reminded by the International Day of Clean Energy that clean energy is not only a choice for the environment but also a worldwide imperative. The world can guarantee a cleaner planet, more robust economies, and a higher standard of living for future generations by adopting sustainable energy solutions now
