International Tea Day

 International Tea Day

International Tea Day is celebrated every year on December 15th to recognize the cultural and economic importance of tea across the world. Tea is one of the most consumed beverages globally, second only to water. From the highlands of Sri Lanka to the fields of China, India, and Kenya, millions of people are involved in the production, processing, and distribution of tea. This day not only celebrates the drink itself but also raises awareness of the lives and livelihoods of tea workers and small farmers. Tea plays a significant role in global trade and employment, especially in developing countries. The goal of International Tea Day is to promote sustainable production and fair trade. It also encourages consumers to consider where their tea comes from and how it’s produced.

Each culture has its unique tea traditions. In Sri Lanka, Ceylon tea is a national pride and a symbol of hospitality. In Japan, tea ceremonies are practiced as a form of art and mindfulness. In Britain, “afternoon tea” is a long-standing tradition. These customs show how deeply tea is woven into societies around the world.
