International Animation Day



International Animation Day is observed on October 28th. The day was proclaimed in 2002 by the Association Internationale du Film d'Animation (ASIFA), or the International Animated Film Association. ASIFA is a member of UNESCO. October 28th was chosen to commemorate the day, October 28, 1892, when Charles-Émile Reynaud of France first presented his animated images to the public using his "Théâtre Optique" (Optical Theatre) at the Musée Grévin in Paris. This is recognized as the first public screening of projected moving images, marking the beginning of modern animation and cinema.This day provides a worldwide platform to honor animation's creativity, innovation, and cultural impact.

Animation is an extraordinary art medium that expands the boundaries of the illusion of movement, creativity, and storytelling. World Animation Day celebrates the birth and evolution of this art form, which brings joy, wonder, and inspiration to our lives through films, television programs, video games, and digital media.

World Animation Day is about showing the world that animation is more than just cartoons. Its main goals are:

• Recognition as an Art Form- Promoting animation across various media and acknowledging it as a powerful art form and a means of communication.

• Coordination- Encouraging global collaboration and exchange of ideas among animators, artists, and others involved in the field.

• Increasing Awareness- Educating the public about the history of animation, its diverse techniques (drawing, clay, stop-motion, 3D), and the dedication required.

• Watch and Learn- Discover the classics of animation, explore diverse styles like anime and stop-motion, or watch student and short films to appreciate the variety of the art form.

• Support Creators- Attend animation festivals, workshops, or exhibitions; buy merchandise from independent animators; or follow animation studios and artists on social media.

• Get Creative- Try making your own animated piece using simple tools like a phone app or computer software to experience the magic of bringing images to life.

• Share Your Passion-Use your voice on social media, share your favorite animated content, or talk to friends and family about the cultural significance of animation.
