Established in 2010 by the United Nations Department of Public Information, World English Language Day traditionally coincides with William Shakespeare's birthday and death anniversary. The day pays tribute to the Bard's profound influence on the English language. His literary genius shaped the course of English literature.World English Language Day is part of a larger United Nations initiative to promote multilingualism and cultural diversity within the organization. The United Nations recognizes the importance of effective communication in fulfilling its mission and ensures accessibility through the six official languages of Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
The English language originated in Dr. England and takes its name from the Angles, a Wet Germanic tribe. About 1500 years ago only three tribes were known to speak this language. It is the most important and widely spoken language with the number of English speakers increasing every year around the world. Moreover, it is also known as the most complex language. More than 75 countries have adopted English as their official language. It aims to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity by exploring language.
